Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month

In 1983, April was proclaimed the first National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Every April since then has been dedicated to renewing our nation’s commitment to preventing child abuse and neglect.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign

Wearing a blue ribbon during April began in 1989 as a Virginia grandmother’s tribute to her grandson who died as a result of abuse. She tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car as a way to remember her grandson and alert others in her community to the tragedy of child abuse. Since that time, the blue ribbon campaign has spread across the country and many wear a blue ribbon to honor their commitment to the prevention of child abuse.

Wednesday, April 2nd - Go Blue Day

Wear blue on April 2nd to show your support for child abuse prevention. Wear a dress, shirt, tie or blue ribbon to help raise awareness of child abuse and neglect and to encourage community support. Let this visible show of support be a reminder that all of us are responsible for helping make the world a safer place for our children.

Blue Sunday Faith Initiative - Sunday, April 27th

Every year on the last Sunday in April, participating churches take time to pray for the victims of child abuse and for those who rescue them. The faith initiative has grown to over 2 million participants and spawned many relief and prevention projects.
