2008 pictures sponsorship levels check out our sponsors and supporters
Court Appointed Special Advocates hosted the third annual Tech Theta “Speak Up for Kids” 5K race on April 5, 2008! The run/walk was a huge success with over $23,000 raised and over 815 participants. Awareness was also raised about the staggering number of abused children living in our local area. The race took place on the campus of Texas Tech University, with the start/finish line from Race Works Inc. located at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion. With a family-friendly atmosphere targeting good physical fitness especially for children, the event included a KIDS K for athletes age 12 and under with appearances from Raider Red, the Masked Rider, members of the Tech Track Team, members of the Lady Raiders, and Tech Theta volunteers. There was also a balloon launch providing a visual with 452 blue balloons representing the number of children currently served by CASA who have a CASA volunteer advocating for their best interest and 221 white balloons representing the children currently served by CASA who are still in need of a CASA volunteer. In addition, there are hundreds more children CASA is currently not appointed to due to lack of volunteers. Thanks to United Supermarkets for helping out with all the balloons and so many other aspects of the race and thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for being our state sponsor for the event. Be sure to check out the results of the race by checking the runner times provided by Cadence Sports. We hope to have each of you join us again next year!
