2008 statistics and accomplishments
Number of children advocated for: 900 Total number of cases: 413 431 children were female 469 children were male 216 children were age 5 and under 333 children were 6-11 307 children were 12-17 44 were 18 or older 352 CASA volunteers provided advocacy to assigned children 7119 hours were donated by CASA advocates 249 children were placed in safe permanent homes 50 new volunteers were trained during the 9 training classes held in three counties. Numerous professionals donated their time by sharing their skills and expertise. 543 of the children served by CASA in May 08 were school age and enrolled in school. 493, or 91%, of those children passed to the next grade. CASA's third "Speak Up for Kids 5K" presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas was held April 5, 2008. Over 800 participants and 200 volunteers supported CASA during this event. The race raised over $26,000 for CASA. During the month of August, six playhouses were on display at the South Plains Mall and an area United Supermarket. The playhouses were raffled off for our third "Casas for CASA." Over $25,000 was earned during this month long event. CASA participated in "National Adoption Day" along with DFPS and the Foster Care Court in November and happily celebrated with 23 children as they were adopted into their "forever families." CASA's fourth annual "Holidays of Hope for Kids" event was held on December 8, 2008. This luncheon, which included a children's style show and holiday tree auction, raised over $10,000 for CASA. CASA of the South Plains was able to participate in Oprah's Big Give and benefited with news and television exposure on the need for CASA volunteers. KAMC 28 presented CASA $10,000 towards new volunteer training. CASA benefited from Lubbock's annual "Parade of Homes" presented by the West Texas Home Builders Association. The WTHBA donated $10,000 to CASA from this event. CASA participated in an internet competition through City Bank with other non-profits in Lubbock. Supporters voted online for their favorite charity. CASA was one of the top six charities recognized in this competition and received $10,000 from City Bank at the end of December. CASA's Happy Home Capital Campaign kicked off in July 2008 and resulted in over $100,000 in donations and pledges. As a result, CASA was able to purchase a new office building and begin renovations on the building at the end of December. |
